The transformation of Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan had received some help from Peninsula Co-op.
On Wednesday, June 19, Peninsula Co-op donated $100,000 to Easter Seals British Columbia & Yukon (BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities) to help with the ongoing $25 million rebuild.
With the massive upgrade, the camp will be the first one in North America to be open year-round for children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities.
“This incredible organization has been a beacon of hope and support for individuals with varied disabilities, providing essential services and opportunities for growth and independence,” said Peninsula Co-op board member Patti Hunter. “Our contributions to Easter Seals now surpass $165,000 with this capital donation, specifically aiding in the rebuilding and revitalization of Camp Shawnigan, a place that has brought smiles and unforgettable experiences to countless campers.”
The new retreat destination is purpose-built and multi-functional facility.
“The new Camp Shawnigan is a visionary project that will allow us to deliver life-changing programs for people with disabilities, in a fully inclusive and accessible space,” says Mike Leland with Easter Seals BC/Yukon.
