Beacon Community Services has opened a satellite office in Brentwood Bay with the help of the District of Central Saanich.

The office is based out of the Community Resource Office in the lobby of the library building at 1209 Clarke Rd.

The office will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with hours likely to expand this spring.

“We are looking forward to sharing information, resources and referrals for all Beacon programs as well as other services that support the community,” Deb Greenaway, Beacon’s manager of community services.

Volunteers at the office will connect community members with mental wellness and housing resources, support services for older adults, childcare and other resources.

Disabled parking permits will also be issued at the office on behalf of the Victoria Disability Resource Centre.

Visitors can also learn about volunteer opportunities and services on the Saanich Peninsula.

“The impetus to open a physical office in Central Saanich came about from Central Saanich’s recent community outreach as we developed our age-friendly community plan,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor. “Older adults and caregivers told us there is an overwhelming amount of information out there about local services and they find it difficult to navigate. Having a physical place to go where they could be assisted and connected to resources will be a big benefit. I really can’t emphasize how grateful we are for our partnership with Beacon, and I thank their staff and volunteers for making this a reality so quickly for the community.”

Beacon Community Services was formed in 1974 when a small group of volunteers formed a citizens advisory committee to help address social issues on the Saanich Peninsula.
