The Town of Sidney will continue to offer top-up rebates for homeowners who retrofit their heating systems to improve energy efficiency.

Sidney council directed staff to set aside $25,000 for the province’s CleanBC Better Homes Program with funding from the Provincial Local Government Climate Action Program at the regular council meeting on Oct. 10.

Financial support for this program was previously coming from the Climate Action Reserve Fund. The province provides $118,000 annually through the Local Government Climate Action Program.

Over $16,000 was distributed in 2023 to date, and less than $10,000 was allocated for the program.

Rebates are paid out each quarter upon invoice from the province.

In 2021, the town became a partner in the CleanBC Better Homes Program.

Rebates have been provided for 89 retrofit projects in Sidney, including 58 homes that switched from oil or natural gas to a heat pump.
